Established in 1980 as K L College of Engineering (KLCE) in Vaddeswaram, Andhra Pradesh, the institution achieved autonomous status in 2006. In 2009, it was recognized as a Deemed to be University by the University Grants Commission (UGC), adopting the name K L University. To align with UGC guidelines, it was later renamed Koneru Lakshmaiah Education Foundation (KLEF), and is currently known as K L Deemed to be University.
