Osmania University was founded by Mir Osman Ali Khan, the 7th Nizam of Hyderabad, with the vision of providing higher education in the Urdu language. It began operations in 1918 with faculties in Arts and Theology, enrolling 225 students and 25 faculty members. The main campus, characterized by Indo-Saracenic architecture, was inaugurated in 1934 and spans nearly 1,600 acres .​
