Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira was established in 1941 as a residential college for boys, under the auspices of Ramakrishna Mission Saradapitha, Belur Math. The foundation of the institution was inspired by Swami Vivekananda, who envisioned a center of learning that harmonized the ancient Indian Gurukula system with modern education.
Initially started as an Intermediate Arts College, it expanded its academic offerings over the years, introducing Commerce in 1945, Science in 1946, and Honours and Postgraduate courses in subsequent decades. In 2010, it was granted autonomous status by the University Grants Commission (UGC), enabling it to design its own syllabus and conduct independent evaluations.
