St. Joseph’s College of Commerce (SJCC), located on Brigade Road in Bangalore, is a premier autonomous institution affiliated with Bengaluru City University. Managed by the Bangalore Jesuit Educational Society (BJES), SJCC has a rich history dating back to 1882.​

History

1882: Founded as part of St. Joseph’s College by French missionaries.

1937: Administration transferred to the Jesuits.

1949: Establishment of the Department of Commerce.

1972: Became an independent entity as St. Joseph’s College of Commerce.

2005: Granted autonomous status by the University Grants Commission (UGC).​

Over the years, SJCC has evolved into a multidisciplinary institution, introducing programs like B.A. English (Hons) and B.Sc. Economics (Hons) in 2022 .​

SJCC offers a range of facilities to support academic and extracurricular activities:

Academic Infrastructure: Smart classrooms, two auditoriums, and fully equipped computer labs with over 160 systems .

Library: Houses over 22,350 books, including rare collections, and provides digital resources .

Sports and Recreation: Facilities for football, cricket, basketball, table tennis, and an indoor gymnasium .

Campus Amenities: Wi-Fi enabled campus, cafeteria, medical facilities, and provisions for differently-abled students, including ramps and braille software .​

SJCC is recognized for its academic excellence and contributions to commerce education:

NAAC Accreditation: Re-accredited with an 'A++' grade and a CGPA of 3.57/4 in 2021 .

NIRF Ranking: Ranked 55th among colleges in India in the 2024 National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) .

UGC Recognition: Designated as a 'College with Potential for Excellence' in 2010  

The college is also consistently ranked among the top commerce colleges in India by reputed publications such as India Today, The Week, and Outlook .​
