Mumbai, Maharashtra

Bombay Scottish School, Mahim, commonly referred to as "Scottish," is a premier private, Christian co-educational day school located in Mahim West, Mumbai, Maharashtra.

Established in 1847 by Scottish Christian missionaries as the Scottish Female Orphanage, the institution has evolved over the years into a distinguished educational establishment, renowned for its commitment to academic excellence and holistic development.

Historical Background

The inception of Bombay Scottish School dates back to 1847 when Scottish Christian missionaries founded the Scottish Female Orphanage in Byculla, Mumbai, aiming to provide education to the daughters of Scottish Presbyterian soldiers and Indian Navy seamen.

The success of this initiative led to the establishment of the Orphanage for the Sons of Presbyterians in 1856. In 1859, these two institutions merged to form the Bombay Presbyterian Male and Female Orphanage. By 1863, the institution was renamed the Bombay Scottish Orphanage, marking a significant milestone in its history.

The campus comprises multiple blocks: the heritage block, north block, east block, and south block. It boasts a range of facilities, including a playground, two basketball courts, dedicated play areas for younger students, and three halls.

The library, located in the heritage wing, houses over 20,000 books accessible to students throughout the day. The school also features well-equipped science laboratories and two air-conditioned computer labs with the latest technology, ensuring students receive comprehensive education in various disciplines.

Affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi, Bombay Scottish School offers education from junior kindergarten to class 12.

Students undertake the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) examinations at the end of class 10 and the Indian School Certificate (ISC) examinations upon completing class 12.
