Established in 2003 under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956, DPU began with a single constituent unit, the Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre. Over the years, it has expanded to include multiple institutions offering programs in medicine, dentistry, nursing, physiotherapy, optometry, biotechnology, management, and more.
